Pathu Porutham Calculator
Check marriage compatibility using the traditional Tamil Pathu Porutham (10 matching) system. Enter the birth details of both partners to see how many of the 10 Poruthams are fulfilled.
What is Pathu Porutham?
Pathu Porutham ("10 compatibilities") is the South Indian system of evaluating marriage compatibility based on the Moon's Nakshatra and Rashi of the bride and groom.
The 10 Factors
Dinam, Ganam, Mahendram, Stree Deergham, Yoni, Rasi, Rasiadhipathi, Vasya, Rajju, and Vedha — each testing a different dimension of compatibility from health to longevity.
Rajju is Key
Among the 10, Rajju and Vedha are considered the most critical. Even if other Poruthams match, a Rajju mismatch is traditionally taken very seriously.
What Our Compatibility Calculator Does
Our free Pathu Porutham calculator goes beyond basic Nakshatra matching. Enter birth details of both partners to get a comprehensive South Indian marriage compatibility report — covering all 10 Poruthams, Mangal Dosha, Papasamya, and Dasa Sandhi analysis.
10 Porutham Analysis
Detailed pass/fail results for all 10 factors — Dinam, Ganam, Mahendram, Stree Deergham, Yoni, Rasi, Rasiadhipathi, Vasya, Rajju, and Vedha with explanations.
Mangal Dosha Check
Automatic Mangal Dosha (Chevvai Dosham / Kuja Dosha) detection for both partners with Mars house placement analysis and severity assessment.
Papasamya (Dosha Balance)
Papa points calculation for both charts — comparing malefic influence from Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu across Lagna, Moon, and Venus to check dosha balance.
Dasa Sandhi Analysis
Checks if either partner is at a Dasha transition period — a critical junction where Maha Dasha changes, which can affect early married life.

Papasamya Calculator
Calculate and compare papa points for both horoscopes — even if one partner has Mangal Dosha, balanced papa points between both charts can neutralise the effect.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Pathu Porutham and how many should match? ▼
Pathu Porutham is the South Indian system of evaluating marriage compatibility using 10 factors based on the Moon's Nakshatra and Rashi. Traditionally, at least 7 out of 10 Poruthams should match, and critically, Rajju and Vedha must not have dosham. The more factors that match, the stronger the compatibility.
What is the difference between Pathu Porutham and Ashtakoota? ▼
Pathu Porutham is the South Indian (Tamil/Kerala) system with 10 factors — each gives a pass/fail result. Ashtakoota (Gun Milan) is the North Indian system with 8 factors scored out of 36 points. Both use Nakshatra-based matching, but the criteria and evaluation methods differ. Our calculator uses the traditional Tamil Pathu Porutham system.
Why is Rajju Porutham considered the most important? ▼
Rajju Porutham evaluates the longevity of the marital bond. The 27 Nakshatras are grouped into 5 Rajju categories (Siro, Kantha, Udara, Ooru, Padam). If both partners fall in the same Rajju group, it is considered a serious dosham that may affect the husband's wellbeing. Even if all other 9 Poruthams match, Rajju dosham is traditionally considered a deal-breaker.
What is Papasamya and why does it matter? ▼
Papasamya means "balance of malefic influence." It calculates papa (malefic) points from Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu in both charts. If one person has Mangal Dosha or other papa dosha, but the other person has a similar level of malefic influence, the doshas are considered balanced and neutralised. This is why matching papa points is essential for a complete compatibility check.
Is this calculator accurate without exact birth time? ▼
Porutham matching primarily depends on the Moon's Nakshatra, which changes approximately every day. For most cases, the date alone gives the correct Nakshatra. However, if the Moon is near a Nakshatra boundary (sandhi), exact birth time becomes crucial. Birth time is also needed for Mangal Dosha and Papasamya analysis, which require the Lagna (Ascendant).
