🌍

What is Gochara?

Gochara means "transit" — the current real-time movement of planets through the zodiac. By analyzing transits against your birth chart (Janma Kundali), astrologers predict the timing and nature of life events.

🪐

Sani & Guru Peyarchi

Saturn (Sani) changes signs roughly every 2.5 years, and Jupiter (Guru) every ~1 year. These major transits — called Peyarchi in Tamil — significantly impact all rashis and are eagerly awaited events in Jyotish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between transit (Gochara) and birth chart positions?

Your birth chart (Rashi chart) shows where planets were at your moment of birth — it never changes and represents your life blueprint. Transit (Gochara) positions show where planets are RIGHT NOW in the sky. When transit planets form aspects or conjunctions to your birth chart positions, they trigger specific life events. Both must be read together for accurate predictions.

Why do you use sidereal instead of tropical positions?

Vedic astrology (Jyotish) uses the sidereal zodiac, which is aligned with the actual star constellations. Due to the precession of equinoxes, the sidereal and tropical zodiacs differ by about 24° (the Ayanamsha). We use the Lahiri Ayanamsha — the standard recommended by the Indian government. If you compare with Western astrology sites, their positions will differ by this amount.

Which planetary transits have the biggest impact?

Slow-moving planets have the most significant impact: Saturn (2.5 years per sign) affects career, discipline, and karma; Jupiter (1 year per sign) affects wisdom, wealth, and fortune; Rahu-Ketu (18 months per sign) affect obsessions, past karma, and sudden changes. Fast planets like Moon (2.5 days), Sun (1 month), and Mercury (varies) create day-to-day fluctuations.

How do I read Gochara effects on my birth chart?

Count the transit planet's current Rashi position from your Moon sign. For example, if Jupiter is in the 5th sign from your Moon, it's considered very favourable (wealth, children, intellect). Saturn in 1st, 4th, 8th from Moon is challenging. For personalised Gochara analysis with your birth chart, use our Birth Chart calculator which includes an AI-powered transit analysis tab.
