Beyond 10 Poruttham: Deeper Insights into Marriage Compatibility

We often rely heavily on the traditional 10 Poruttham (Dasa Poruttham) for marriage compatibility, which primarily focuses on Chandran's (Moon's) position from the Janma Rasi. While crucial, I'm curious to hear from members about their experiences and methods for a more comprehensive analysis of matrimonial harmony.

Beyond just the Kuta matching, how much weight do you give to other factors? For instance, the compatibility of the Lagnam lords, the strength and placement of Sukran (Venus) and Sevvai (Mars) in both charts, and checking for significant Sevvai Dosham (Mangal Dosha) or Kalathra Dosham. Do you also analyze the Dasha Sandhi periods between the prospective couple to foresee potential challenges or smooth transitions during their married life?

Furthermore, what about the influence of Gochara (transits) post-marriage, especially major Sani Peyarchi or Guru Peyarchi, on the 7th house or Kalathra Karaka in both charts? Some also look at the Navamsa chart extensively. I believe a holistic view, integrating Parashari principles with practical considerations, yields better insights than merely ticking off the 10 Poruttham points. Share your profound methods and specific planetary combinations you look for to predict a truly strong and lasting union!

For those facing significant Sevvai Dosham or pronounced Kalathra Dosham, beyond finding a compatible chart, undertaking specific parigarams can bring immense relief and strength to the marital bond. For Sevvai Dosham, performing Angaraka Puja or visiting the Vaitheeswaran Koil (Sevvai Sthalam) is highly recommended. Chanting the Sevvai Gayatri Mantra or Skanda Gayatri regularly can also pacify the fiery planet.

If Sukran is afflicted, visiting Kanjanoor Koil (Sukran Sthalam) or performing Lakshmi Puja can strengthen marital harmony. For general Kalathra Dosham, offering prayers at the Thiruvalangadu Sri Vadaranyeswarar Temple, especially on Pradosham days, is believed to be very powerful. Consistent practice of these parigarams, coupled with understanding the astrological root cause, can certainly improve marital prospects and sustain a happy union.

Great analysis! I wholeheartedly agree. Relying solely on 10 Poruttham is like judging a book by its cover. The depth of insights from analyzing Lagnam lords, Sukran, Sevvai, and especially the Navamsa chart, is incomparable. It's truly a holistic approach that Jyotish requires.

Indeed, a multi-faceted approach is key. Beyond the individual planetary strengths, I also look at the compatibility of the current and upcoming Dasha lords for both individuals. If one person is in a favorable Guru Dasha and the other is entering a challenging Sani Dasha, it can create an imbalance in their life experiences and support systems, impacting marital harmony.

Furthermore, consider the concept of Bhava Poshana – the nourishment of houses. Is the 7th house (marriage) and the 4th house (domestic happiness) well-supported by their lords and benefics in both charts? Also, major Gochara movements, especially Sani Peyarchi and Guru Peyarchi, are crucial. When Sani transits the 7th house or aspects Sukran or the 7th lord, it can bring delays, challenges, or profound lessons. Conversely, Guru's benevolent transit over these points can bring healing and growth.

I also pay attention to Ashtakavarga, specifically the Sarvashtakavarga for the 7th house. A low Bindu count in the 7th house in either chart can indicate inherent weakness in that area of life, making the individual more susceptible to marital challenges, irrespective of other planetary strengths. This requires careful consideration and suitable remedies.

I've seen cases where 10 Poruttham was impeccable, like 9 or 10 points, yet the marriage dissolved within a few years. In one such instance, the couple had fantastic Rajju and Gana Poruttham, but the boy's Lagnam lord was debilitated and retrograding in the 8th house, and the girl had a very weak Sukran afflicted by Rahu and Sani in the 6th house in her Navamsa. These deep-seated weaknesses were overlooked due to the superficial Poruttham score.

They faced constant communication breakdowns and health issues that eventually strained their relationship beyond repair. It highlighted to me that strong individuals make a strong couple. If one's chart has inherent weaknesses in foundational aspects (like Lagnam strength) or critical areas for marriage (like Sukran or 7th house), even perfect Poruttham won't guarantee happiness. It's about the holistic strength and harmony of the entire astrological blueprint.

This is a fantastic discussion! I've always wondered about the role of the shadowy planets. What about Rahu and Kethu's influence on marriage? If Rahu is in the 7th house, or if Kethu aspects Sukran, how does one analyze that? Does it always mean challenges, or can it bring unique experiences?

Specifically, if Rahu is in the 7th house in Mesham Rasi, what kind of marital dynamics might one expect, especially if the prospective partner has Sevvai in a challenging position? Any insights on how to mitigate the more difficult manifestations of Rahu/Kethu in marital houses would be greatly appreciated by us learners!
