Dear esteemed members, I seek your expert guidance on a critical aspect of Poruttham (marriage compatibility) in Tamil Jyotisham, specifically regarding the interplay of Kuja Dosham (Sevvai Dosham) and Rahu-Kethu Dosham.

We all know that matching the 10 Porutthams is fundamental, but often the presence of doshams can complicate matters significantly. I'm analyzing a potential match where the boy has Kuja Dosham, with Sevvai in the 7th Bhava from the Lagnam (Dhanusu Lagnam, Sevvai in Mithunam). The girl also has Kuja Dosham, with Sevvai in the 8th Bhava from her Chandra Rasi (Rishabam Moon, Sevvai in Dhanusu). While there's a degree of cancellation often suggested for Kuja Dosham when both have it, the specific bhava placements can differ in intensity.

Adding another layer of complexity, the boy's chart shows Rahu in the 5th Bhava and Kethu in the 11th, while the girl's chart has Rahu in the 2nd Bhava and Kethu in the 8th. This presents a potential Rahu-Kethu Dosham impact, particularly on family and marital harmony, especially with Kethu in the 8th for the girl, which can indicate sudden changes or challenges in married life. The 7th Bhava's integrity becomes paramount here.

My question to the experienced Jyotish Pandits here is: How do we collectively assess the strength and potential adverse effects of these two major doshams when they coexist in a compatibility analysis? Does the cancellation of Kuja Dosham hold firm, or do the Rahu-Kethu placements exacerbate the overall challenge?

Are there specific traditional Parigarams (remedies) that can mitigate the combined effects of such doshams, beyond the general advice? I'm particularly interested in approaches common in Nadi Jyotish or specific temple Upayas that address these intricate combinations. Any insights into how these doshams might manifest in their married life, or if one overrides the other, would be deeply appreciated.

I respectfully disagree with the notion that Kuja Dosham is simply 'cancelled' when both partners have it. It's not always a mathematical equation. The *type* and *intensity* of Sevvai Dosham vary greatly. For instance, Sevvai in Mesham or Vrichigam in the 7th Bhava is far more potent than Sevvai in Kanni in the 7th.

If one partner has a very strong Sevvai Dosham and the other has a milder one, the 'cancellation' is imperfect and residual effects can still manifest. We need to look at the specific Rasi placement, any conjunctions or aspects, and the overall strength of Sevvai in each chart. A simplistic cancellation approach can be misleading and lead to future complications.

Excellent thread and a very relevant discussion for anyone delving into marriage compatibility. I've encountered similar challenges in assessing complex Porutthams where multiple doshams seem to be at play simultaneously. Looking forward to more insights!

Let's consider the girl's Rahu-Kethu axis more deeply. Rahu in the 2nd Bhava from Chandra (Rishabam Moon, so Rahu in Mithunam) can indicate an unconventional approach to family matters, finances, and speech. There can be a tendency towards exaggeration or difficulty in managing inherited wealth, or even challenges with the native family unit. It could also suggest a desire for wealth through unusual means.

Kethu in the 8th Bhava (Dhanusu from Rishabam Chandra) is particularly critical for marital life. The 8th Bhava represents longevity, hidden matters, and the spouse's family wealth. Kethu here can bring about sudden, unforeseen changes or events, detachment, or even spiritual inclinations that might make worldly attachments difficult. It can also point to health issues or unexpected challenges to the spouse's well-being. This placement needs serious consideration, as it can be disruptive to the stability expected in a marriage.

My own parents' charts had pronounced Kuja Dosham in both and even some Rahu-Kethu Dosham. Despite this, their marriage lasted over 50 years and was quite harmonious. What seemed to make the difference was a very strong Guru in the 7th Bhava in one chart and Sukran in its own Rasi strongly placed in the other.

Also, their Nadi Poruttham and Rajju Poruttham were excellent, which our family Jyotishi stressed as far more important than the doshams in their specific combination. It really taught me that while doshams are important, a strong benefic influence and foundational Porutthams can truly override or mitigate many potential problems.

This is fascinating! Does the aspect of a highly benefic planet, say Guru, on Sevvai or directly on the 7th Bhava completely nullify the Kuja Dosham, or does it merely reduce its intensity to a manageable level? I've heard conflicting opinions on this.

Also, in the context of Rahu-Kethu Dosham, can a very strong Chandra or a well-placed Sukran help to mitigate the potential adverse effects on marital harmony and emotional well-being? Your insights would be greatly appreciated.

For the Rahu-Kethu Dosham, especially with Kethu in the 8th Bhava, I highly recommend regular spiritual practices. Apart from visiting Sri Kalahasti Temple, performing Rahu-Kethu Shanti Pooja is essential. Both individuals should also be encouraged to chant the Rahu Beej Mantra and Kethu Beej Mantra daily.

Fasting on Amavasya or on Tuesdays (for Rahu) and Thursdays (for Kethu) can also be beneficial. Donating black urad dal or sesame seeds to the needy, or engaging in service at a temple, can create positive karma to counterbalance the negative influences of these shadow planets. The key is consistent effort and devotion.

Beyond the natal chart analysis, it is absolutely critical to overlay the Dasha-Bukthi periods for both individuals. Even potent doshams may lie dormant if the current Dasha is of a strong benefic planet or a Yogakaraka. Conversely, if the Dasha of Rahu, Kethu, or a Maraka planet is running, or if planets owning the 6th, 8th, or 12th Bhavas are active, the doshams can become highly pronounced, leading to significant challenges.

Furthermore, Gochara (transit) effects, especially of Sani, Guru, and the Rahu-Kethu axis, must be considered. If Gochara Sani is transiting the 7th or 8th Bhava, or if Rahu-Kethu are transiting sensitive points in the charts, the effects of the inherent doshams can be amplified during those periods. A holistic assessment considering Dasha, Bukthi, and Gochara is paramount for predicting the long-term journey of the marriage.

While Kuja Dosham and Rahu-Kethu Dosham are undoubtedly important, sometimes we might overemphasize them at the expense of other crucial Porutthams. For instance, Nadi Poruttham and Rajju Poruttham are considered fundamental for the longevity and well-being of the marital bond and progeny. If these foundational Porutthams are severely afflicted, no amount of dosham cancellation can truly guarantee a successful marriage in the long run.

It's important to look at the overall Dasa Poruttham score and the strength of the 7th Bhava Lord and Sukran in both charts. These factors often provide a more holistic picture of marital harmony and sustainability than focusing solely on the presence or cancellation of specific doshams.

My own brother's marriage faced immense struggles despite a promising initial Poruttham analysis. He had a strong Kuja Dosham, and his wife had Rahu in the 7th Bhava with Kethu in the 1st. The Jyotishi at the time downplayed the combined impact, focusing solely on a few matched Porutthams.

However, marital discord, constant arguments, and health issues for his wife became a recurring theme throughout their marriage. It really opened my eyes to the fact that it's not just about identifying doshams, but truly understanding their combined strength and potential adverse effects when they coalesce. Sometimes, the overall chart strength and benefic aspects are just not enough to fully negate potent doshas.

This discussion truly underscores the complex nature of Poruttham in Tamil Jyotisham. It's never about isolating one factor, but rather assessing the delicate interplay of all planetary positions, aspects, strengths, and weaknesses. A true Jyotishi looks at the entire picture, including the strength of the Lagnam, the 7th Bhava, Guru, and Sukran, to provide a balanced and informed prognosis. Acknowledge the doshams, but also seek the mitigating factors.

Dear esteemed members, this is a very insightful and practical question that delves into the subtleties of Poruttham. When we talk about Kuja Dosham cancellation, it's never a blanket approval. While the principle of 'Dosham Samyam' (equal dosham) holds, the specific Bhava placements, Rasi occupied by Sevvai, and its Lord's strength are paramount. For the boy, Sevvai in Mithunam (7th from Dhanusu Lagna) is in Budhan's Rasi, which can temper its fiery nature to some extent. However, Mithunam is a dual sign, and Sevvai there can indicate fluctuating dynamics in partnership. For the girl, Sevvai in Dhanusu (8th from Rishabam Chandra Rasi) is in Guru's Rasi. Dhanusu is a fiery sign, and Sevvai here can manifest as strong will or even disputes, especially impacting the Mangalya Sthanam due to its 8th Bhava placement.

Now, introducing the Rahu-Kethu Dosham complicates matters significantly. The boy's Rahu in 5th and Kethu in 11th axis can indicate karmic issues related to children, creativity, or even unfulfilled desires regarding gains. This may not directly impact marital harmony initially, but can cause stress over time if not addressed. However, the girl's Rahu in 2nd and Kethu in 8th is more directly impactful on married life. Kethu in the 8th Bhava is particularly sensitive. It can bring detachment, sudden unforeseen events, or challenges related to the spouse's family, or even health issues for the spouse. The 2nd Bhava (family, speech, wealth) having Rahu can lead to unconventional family dynamics or speech patterns that might cause friction. The integrity of the 7th Bhava and its Lord in both charts, along with Sukran's condition, becomes even more critical to assess the overall strength of the marital bond.

Therefore, while Kuja Dosham might have some level of 'cancellation,' the cumulative effect of these specific Rahu-Kethu placements, particularly the girl's 2/8 axis, cannot be ignored. A deep dive into the Navamsa chart for both individuals is essential. Look at the 7th Lord in Navamsa, its strength, and any benefic aspects. Also, analyze the Dasha-Bukthi patterns they are likely to experience after marriage. If they are entering challenging Dasha Sandhis or if crucial planetary periods are afflicted, the combined doshams could manifest more strongly. Parigarams might be necessary, but a holistic assessment beyond just dosham cancellation is what truly defines an expert analysis.

This is a very common dilemma many of us face in Jyothisham, especially when looking at Poruttham for prospective alliances. My personal take, having seen many charts, is that while the 'cancellation' of Kuja Dosham when both have it is a general rule, one must really assess the strength of Sevvai in each chart. Is it Vargottam? Is it aspected by Guru? These details can significantly alter its impact.

Regarding the Rahu-Kethu Dosham, especially the girl's Kethu in the 8th, I would lean towards suggesting proactive parigarams. This particular placement for Kethu, especially when coupled with Rahu in the 2nd, can indeed bring about unexpected challenges or a sense of detachment in family life. Regular prayers to Lord Ganesha, who is the overlord of Kethu, can be very beneficial. Also, visiting a Kethu Sthalam like Keezhaperumpallam or performing remedies during Amavasya can help. For both individuals, chanting the Rahu and Kethu Moola Mantras daily can provide inner strength and mitigate the malefic effects.

It's also crucial to look at the overall Guna Poruttham and the longevity of the marriage beyond just the doshams. Sometimes, a very strong Guru in the 7th or 9th Bhava, or a well-placed Sukran, can act as a powerful shield against these doshams. Even if a 'dosham' exists, the individual's Dharma and spiritual practices during their Dasha-Bukthi periods can often alleviate many potential problems. We shouldn't just look for an 'absence' of doshams but also the 'presence' of protective Yogas.
